Description
Devil's Tower is a massive butte of igneous rock, in the Bear Lodge Mountains region of northeastern Wyoming. It was the first National Monument, created by President Roosevelt in 1906. As you travel around the base of the Tower, and the clouds move, the light changes and the Tower takes on different appearances. Parts of the surrounding terrain are a dense and beautiful pine forest, others are lunar-looking piles of boulders that have tumbled down from the Tower a columns fractured off. You can stand in the silence and hear absolutely nothing but the wind in the pines.
