Description
Peavey Plaza is a public outdoor space in Minneapolis, next to Orchestra Hall. Designed by architect M. Paul Friedberg and built in 1975, it's been called a "marvel of moodernism". But it proved difficult to maintain, didn't meet evolving accessibility standards, and fell into disrepair and disuse. The city's original plan to demolish it was successfully contested, and in 2013 it was placed on the National Register of Historic places. A new rennovation plan was created, and work was completed in 2019. Today, it's a fresh and beautiful island of tranquility at the end of Nicollet Mall.
