Artist's Description

The Rand Tower, at 26 stories, was one of the tallest buildings in Minneapolis when built in 1929. The stock market crashed, but the building stayed up, and today it's slated to become a luxury hotel. Its design contains Art Deco elements but is officially listed as Moderne. Some of the ornamentation has an aviation theme; the figures over the entrance represent Mercury and are holding biplanes.

About Jim Hughes

Jim Hughes

I'm a photographer in Minneapolis, interested in many things. Sometimes I start with a plan, and sometimes something just catches my eye. I like to come up with my own spin on a subject and create an image with some sort of a twist. And when I know what I want, I'll spend a lot of time getting it. If you're looking for a specific photo and not finding it, just email me at jim-hughes@outlook.com.
