Artist's Description

The 12 blocks of Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis became a "mall" in the 60s, restricted to buses and pedestrians. In 2015-2017 the mall was extensively renovated, with major improvements to underground infrastructure, and more space devoted to sidewalk and tree plantings. While the completed project has been criticized as not meeting the expectations set at its announcement, I see it more as a platform for the future. What's there now is a bit minimalist but seems strangely cool late in the day.

About Jim Hughes

Jim Hughes

I'm a photographer in Minneapolis, interested in many things. Sometimes I start with a plan, and sometimes something just catches my eye. I like to come up with my own spin on a subject and create an image with some sort of a twist. And when I know what I want, I'll spend a lot of time getting it. If you're looking for a specific photo and not finding it, just email me at jim-hughes@outlook.com.
