Artist's Description
The Romanesque rotunda of Minneapolis City Hall), designed by Long and Kees in 1888. The sculpture is "Father of Waters," by American sculptor Larkin Goldsmith Mead who lived in Florence, Italy at the time. According to legend, rubbing his big toe brings good luck. It represents the Mississippi Rive and was placed inside the building in 1906.
In this photo a fisheye lens captures the statue and rotunda. The pinkish cast at the top of the rotunda is real, created by the tinted glass.
About Jim Hughes
I'm a photographer in Minneapolis, interested in many things. Sometimes I start with a plan, and sometimes something just catches my eye. I like to come up with my own spin on a subject and create an image with some sort of a twist. And when I know what I want, I'll spend a lot of time getting it. If you're looking for a specific photo and not finding it, just email me at jim-hughes@outlook.com.
